Welcome
Welcome to the blog for the CWU Introduction to Online Design (Com 306). You can visit the web page for the course for more information about the actual class.
At this blog, we will be evaluating and critiquing Web design as a way of learning to do better on our own pages. Each week we'll be looking at a different segment of Web pages. Stay tuned!

Here are my comments about the design sites I explored!
I feel the article by Jim Frey was the most interesting. He kept the information simple and almost comical. These are the key concepts I found in his article:
Dont use special animation players (JAVA, Flash) unless you need them, its is hard to download for dial up users.
Know your audience: their connection speeds, download times, etc.
Use simple fonts and colors. It makes the text easier to read and it's not so hard on the eyes of the person viewing your site.
Empty space is good, gives the reader a break. Keep pictures, fonts, and colors simple.
Hotwired: I felt that this site had too much information crammed on the page. I didn't know where to begin or what to look at. Was the site about web animation? It was very colorful and visually interesting, if you could search through all the information. The site had many great news articles available.
Wired: A lot of the information on this site is interesting, but not really relevent in any way shape or form. The news was interesting to read but nothing really jumped out at me as being important or newsworthy. I particularily liked the story headlines because they were creative and comical. The site could have been more visually interesting if it was not so crammed with information.
Web Monkey: I really think this site was the best of the three. Nice layout, not too cluttered, but visually interesting. The ability to browse the site's information according to web design skill level (beginning, intermediate, advanced) was really neat.
I think that all the sites are about web design and technology. A few of them had additional articles about various news topics currently going on in the world as well.
Helpful articles:
Hotwired: Crash Course in Web Design
Wired: Didn't find any that were particularily helpful.
Web Monkey: Design Site Building and Graphics articles

It was cool that this website recongnized our class and our professor's idea for a class blogger. I read the article covering "about pages" I really didn't understand the pupose of these pages until I read this article. It makes sense that if someone hits upon your website that you should be able read a little bit about the person who the website is about.
